Interact Club of Dripping Springs High School

Dripping Springs High School Rotary Interact Club

Interact is a service club that gives students 12-18 the chance to make a real difference while having fun.  The club carries out 2 service projects per year; one that benefits community or school and one that promotes international.

Interact Club representatives, JT, Pres, and Josh made a wonderful presentation to the club highlighting the club's plans for the school year.  The club has already attracted more prospects that last year and promises to be a banner year for Interact.  The club's plans for the year include such great projects as:
* Toy drive for Brown Santa
* Dripping Springs Educational Foundation - wifi cards
* Nerf War - was a great way to generate social media for the club in the past and is expected to be again
* Pioneer Days at the Pound House
* Donation to the JK Rollins Foundation for an International Project
* Working with the DS Rotary to sell Mercedes raffle tickets at First Thursday
* The Burke Center Christmas Party
* Veterans Day
* Founders Day Parking

Baseball Card Collection

Baseball Cards & Fun Facts

by Charlie Campise August 29, 2016
Charlie Campise started collecting baseball cards as a young boy, using money he earned by recycling neighborhood newspapers.  Charlie shared many very old cards in his collection as well as some very interesting artifacts such as newspapers, Colt .45 programs, opening day tickets in the Astrodome.  Charlie grew up in Houston and was a Houston Buffalo "Buffs" fan.  Back then the Buffs were the farm team for the St Louis Cardinals.

Some fun facts shared:
* The first collector cards were attached to pouches of raw tobacco, used for 'roll-your-own' cigarettes.
* The first bubble gum cards were one gum and one card to packet and the cost was $.01, some of those are now valued worth over $5K
* Abner Doubleday is not the founder of the game of baseball.
* The first major league team in Texas was the Houston Colt .45's (They are now the Houston Astros).*

Charlie shared great stories of baseball and collecting.
