Galen Zimmerman, DSISD Athletic Director and Head Football Coach updated Rotarians on athletics in the district. He was joined by Marissa Parks, Assistant AD. Here's some bullet highlights:
* The district gains .55 students per new household (that's 1 student per 2 new homes built) and building is growing
* DSISD offers GREAT academics, fine arts and athletics
*Cross Country - if we can stay healthy we will go to state
* Volleyball - won state last year, this year we have a younger team, but plays well together
* Tennis - tied for 1st place in the District in Team Tennis
* Golf - just kicked off, but are excited about the team (they practice at Grey Rock)
* Swimming - will kick off soon
* Football - 5 & 0 with a team that has great chemistry
* The new district configuration adds more miles/travel, but we play more towns like ours.
The athletic department for DSISD walks the talk with Core Values in the forefront at all times:
* Trust
* Passion
* Discipline
* Servant Leadership
The team seeks to adhere to 8 basic virtues that are summed up in "We stand alone together" with mental and physical toughness and commitment to team.
