Jon Thompson's take on DS growth

Future Growth of Dripping Springs

Jon Thompson, former DS City Planner, tells the Rotary Club of Dripping Springs that we can continue to expect stead growth for the next 18 - 24 months.  The #1 reason people come to Dripping Springs is the school district.  With the reputation of providing a great education, DSISD attracts a lot of folks with families.  The school district has averaged 200 new students per year, however, this year the district experienced 300 new students entering classrooms.  With a current enrolment of almost 6,000, DSISD will have to continue to consider expansions of additional classrooms.

With such explosive growth, the city must address infrastructure, transportation water and workforce.  Transportation issues cannot be completed fast enough to alleviate any of the current congestion. Of course, with wastewater a looming issue, we cannot accommodate any large industry or businesses to the city.  Lack of affordable housing in the area adds to the problem of adequate workforce for future employers and hope of additional businesses.

Dripping Springs competes with Fredricksburg for workforce.  Johnson City and Blanco offer the most affordable housing and would be a hub for pulling workforce to Dripping Springs and thus would compete for Fredricksburg for the same workforce. So stay tuned folks, it's going to be an interesting ride as Dripping Springs continues fast growth.
