Texas Organ Sharing Alliance

Michelle Segovia, Director of Community Relations for the Texas Organ Sharing Alliance shared some interesting information about how each of us can leave a legacy of life.

* 120,000 people per day waiting on a transplant just in the US

* 9 Million registered donors are in Texas; in Hays county, 56% of all drivers are registered donors

* You can register to be a donor through DPS when you renew and secure a drivers license or identification card; or you can register on donatelife.net

* There are 3 organ sharing organizations in Texas

* 1 person can donate 8 organs and their tissue (cornea and skin are tissue)

* UNOS - United National Organ Sharing is the national registry for all donors

* You must die in a hospital to harvest your organs

* Only 2 % of people that die can be donors

* There are no age restrictions, but there are size restrictions

THE INSPIRING EAGLE FOUNDATION

Colonel Robert Garland, U.S.A.F. Retired

Colonel Garland retired in 2013 and chose Dripping Springs as their home based on school, location, and the fact that they kept ending up at the intersection of RR 12 and Hwy 290 as they searched for a home in the general area. He has a servant's heart and founded The Inspiring Eagle Foundation to transform lives and inspire excellence. He and his team of veterans make presentations and help organizations and their people be the bet they can be. He serves as the Commander of the VFW/American Legion in Dripping Springs. Some highlights from his presentation:

American freedom and democracy is exceptional - just travel the world and you will see why.
Freedom isn't free.
Exceptional leads to Greatness.
Greatness is defined by 4 characteristics.
- Humility
- Generous with everything
- Grateful
- Service before self

America's combat readiness:

Has taken a hit in recent years with lack of personnel and training.
We are still the best equipped nation in the world
We have a lack of systems upgrades (it takes 20 years to develop a new system)
We have exceptional people and need to provide them exceptional equipment and tools
