RYLA Student Presentation

Rotary Youth Leadership Academy

Dripping High School students Josh King, Nikhil Clayton and Kenton Borgonah shared with the club their experiences at RYLA last month.   The boys spent 4 days at Camp Newcomb.  They all agreed that they were a little overwhelmed on the first day, but everyone was so welcoming that they quickly felt like part of the event.  Everyone was split into groups ensuring that no 2 people from the same school were on the same team.

Ms. Lulu taught leadership qualities for life and they all picked up some very useful tools for developing leadership skills.  Josh was shy at first but had good interactions once he got past that.  Ken was shy at first, even though he considered himself outgoing until he go there and Mikhil learned to communicate better as a result of this training.  Both Kenton and Mikhil volunteered to be leaders at the RYLA camp next year.

The camp was a very athletic camp, hosting the RYLA Olympics.  Josh's team won 7 of 8 mini challenges, but were 'out-gunned' on the dodge ball court.   Kenton shared that his team really came together in the challenge where they used uncooked pasta, tape and a balloon to build a replica of the Eiffel Tower.  Nikhil liked the mosaic challenge because they had to build something without speaking.  Josh really liked the Mind Games and Rope games.  They all learned problem solving techniques that included looking at thing 'differently'.

They agreed that they made lots of new friends and are staying in touch via group chats.

Affordable Housing in Dripping Springs

Affordable Housing in Dripping Springs?

Dripping Springs is fortunate to have 2 developers seeking tax credits from the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs for building affordable (workforce) housing.  This is not section 8 housing, but affordable homes in growing developments.  Dripping Springs does not currently have enough affordable housing to sustain a viable workforce for our growing community.

There are 5 builders competing for this credit and two are in Dripping Springs.  Karlon Cox has offered to create and bring ready-to-sign letters for any member who wishes to send a letter of support for either or both developers.  If you have further questions, reach out to Karlon Cox directly.
