Founders Day Parking Success

THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS!See the source image

It takes a lot of people working shifts for 2 days to make the magic happen and Debra Maddox and her team made it happen.  Debra has spent more than a month signing up volunteers and working on schedules to get all of the shifts for all the parking entrances covered.  A special thank you to our van drivers and donors.  Our club had huge participation numbers and we are grateful for each of you.

A special shout out to Broadway Bank to makes donations to employees who volunteer. Glenn Wash chose to have Broadway's donation designated to our club foundation.  Thank you Glenn and Broadway Bank!

Lynn Parent - What to do when you get a notice from the IRS

What do you do when you get a letter from the IRS?

According to retired IRS agent, Lynn Parent, you open it. You would be surprised how many people just don't open them.  The IRS does not send email because they consider it unsecured communication.  Some helpful hints from Lynn:
1. Only send mail to the IRS by certified mail or go on line to pay at IRS.gov
2. Open correspondence from the IRS and see what they want.  It could be as simple as identity issue, a missing signature or missing documents - don't assume the worst.
3. Audits are getting few and far between because the staffing levels for auditors has been cut (good news for you).
4. Assessments are arbitrary amounts by the IRS for non or late filers.  the SFR - substitute for return (you failed to file a return), so the IRS creates an amount of the assessment - best guess on their part, but you would still owe it and penalties.
5. The majority of problems with filing falls under the small business/self-employed category.  Usually because expenses are too high for revenues.  You can not have business losses 100% of the time.

The Diaper Drive benefitting Foster Village runs through April so please bring your diapers to the next meeting.  We had 1 case delivered today. (Thank you Cindy K for taking them with you).  Sharon Collier is the lead on this project.  There is a ribbon cutting for their new location on Fitzhugh Road at noon on Friday.  See Chamber website for details.

Cruise raffle tickets are due to Karlon by Monday, April 23. Please bring your money or tickets before the deadline.

April 23 is "BRING A GUEST FOR FREE' day in our club.  Dr. Gearing is discussing the school bond so you can bring an interested party and look like a hero.  Let's fill the room.

The audit team will be conducting the club audit Wednesday, April 18th.

Don't forget to see Debra Maddox to sign up for our Founders Day Parking Project.  We need many volunteers for 2 days.  We have the drivers and need people to work the entrances (would like 2 per entrance and 2 at the pick up locations).

Save the date of June 23 for the Changing of the Guard or Club end of year wrap-up at Ledge Stone - more details to come.
