Meet Rotarian Charlie Campise

Charlie was born in Houston, Texas on September 26, 1941. He attended parochial schools in Bryan, Texas and Houston, Texas. His Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy is from St. Thomas, Houston. His Double Master's Degree in Educational Psychology and Social Work is from Our Lady of the Lake University, San Antonio. Charlie co-founded The Burke Foundation on March 1, 1973. He began as Administrator/CEO and retired as Grant Writer for the Agency. Charlie is am Vice-President of The Scheib Center in San Marcos and a member of San Marcos Noon Lions and Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos. Charlie was the co-founder of The Hays County Crisis Hotline in 1970 which is still in operation to assist people who are contemplating suicide.

Why are you a Rotarian?

I am a Rotarian because I think that the members are extremely caring and approach all matters in a very professional manner in efforts to raise money and to give when a need is present in the community and in the world.

What is your favorite service project?

My favorite service project is the effort to raise money while driving people to Founder's Day. I always make it a point to ask if anyone is having a birthday on this day. Five times in the past two years I have sung the 'happy birthday' song and once I have sung 'Las Mananitas'.  One happy recipient of my singing donated twenty dollars to Rotary.

A little more about Charlie from the roving reporter:

Charlie ust completed his first ever paperback book, ADVENTURES OF A RIDE-SHARE DRIVER.  It will be available for purchase in late November 2017 through Barnes and Noble, Amazon, and other venues.
