Stories
Ron Hood, Hays County Constable, Precinct 4

Ron Hood, Hays County Constable, Precinct 4

Ron has been the Constable since 2008 and was formerly a deputy in Broward County, Florida.  What does a constable do:  They are peace officers, and officers of the court. They issue tickets, make arrests, serve papers and serve as the officers of the court or bailiff.  He shared some insight on the Florida school shooting.  Kids are becoming detached and this is a mental health issue, not a gun issue.  People who want to cause terror or harm will find a way, with or without guns.

What is an Active Shooter?  It is someone whose sole mission is to kill as many people as possible.
What to do in an active shooter situation:
BE THE PERSON TO TAKE ACTION!
AVOID THE SITUATION - RUN
DENY THE ENTRANCE TO YOUR AREA
DEFEND YOURSELF

Avoid the shooter by being aware of your surroundings at all times. Never hesitate.  Go to the closest exit.
Deny his entrance to your area by locking doors, turn off lights, silence phones, block the entrance to your area.
Defend yourself in anyway necessary.  You have the legal right to defend yourself - do not fight fair.  Go for the weak areas such as eyes, throat, groin.

When the police arrive:
Obey commands
Show your EMPTY hands.  If you shot the shooter, put your gun down and raise your hands before they arrive.  Do not be holding your cell phone either.
Do not move.

What you do matters - you deserve to survive.
Active shooter training will be available March 20 at the school for the community.
