Marie Bassett, Chairman of the Historical Market Committee. Been a resident of Driftwood for the last 25 years. She is originally from Scotland. Can go to hayshistoricalcommission.com to find out more about this organization. It meets once per month. It is a group of volunteers appointed for a two year term by the Commissioners Court. They keep the monuments clean, cemeteries usable, and designate historical properties on registry. The Commission keeps up with the cemetery registry, keeps them clean too. Once you get a historical designation on cemetery (takes 18 months) it can be protected. They want a designation for the Wallace Mountain Cemetery. Keep records of who is buried there. Horticultural committee is all about saving historical trees.

Richard Kidd, retired videographer that keeps up with videos. The two local videos are Hays County and World War II with Bradley Davis and 101 Ranch, which was once a ranch where Rim Rock neighborhood is now located. The ranch was run by women.

Special projects: Restored old jail in San Marcos, old railroad depot in Kyle. Have special programs for holidays. Current project is restoring murals from the Pearl Brewery in San Antonio. They should be on display by next year.

Tomorrow they will be receiving an award for their acts of service. No have 21 people on commission. In 1858 just across from Burke Center, a man named William Cannon by the Browning Ranch petitioned to have Courthouse moved to his ranch. There was one meeting of the Commissioners court there. The boundaries changed, so his ranch was no longer the center of the County so it was never moved from San Marcos.

In 1891, new proposed county seat would have been by Flat Creek. It is site of many movies. But, due to San Marcos votes, it was not moved.

The third attempt to relocate the Court House was where the Hays City Store is located. They built Hays City where Barsana Dam is located. Once again, San Marcos had enough people to vote to keep the Courthouse in San Marcos.

Kate Johnson is in charge of the Commission. They believe in buying local.
